SALISBURY — Livingstone College has fixed some fire code violations and has others yet to repair, according to the city of Salisbury.
After a follow-up inspection Thursday of the Honors Dorm and Dancy Hall Dorm at Livingstone, Salisbury Fire Inspectors determined the following:
• Electrical violations have been fixed. Electrical open wires meet state fire code and are in compliance.
• The fire doors do not yet meet code and are still open violations. The college has ordered replacement doors and has shared the ordering and shipping paperwork with the city.
College officials expect the fire doors to be delivered and installed by early next week.
The Honors Dorm has five door violations and Dancy Hall has nine door violations. Salisbury fire inspectors will return to the campus within the next 30 days to follow up and verify the repaired fire doors, the city said in a news release.
Livingstone has had more than 1,000 fire code violations in the past four years and accrued more than $63,000 in fines, the most in city history. As of last month, the college had resolved all but a handful of violations.
The city and college are working on a strategic plan to reduce compliance violations and false alarms on the campus. College president Dr. Jimmy Jenkins has pledged to pay the fees as well.
