SALISBURY — Designing and installing solar power systems for homes, businesses and vehicles throughout North Carolina is the focus of a new company founded by Salisbury native Roderick Robinson.

Robinson recently launched Black Claw Energy. His business plan includes helping businesses adopt sustainable practices as part of their brands, bringing electric auto charging stations to locations across North Carolina and assisting homeowners in going solar to reduce energy costs.

Black Claw Energy was recently accepted to participate the INVESTinNC crowdfunding initiative. And Robinson’s firm is also part of the INVESTinNC “Veterans Six Pack,” which groups start-up businesses according to qualified demographics. Robinson is a U.S. Army veteran.

“I’m especially excited about solar as a means to save money,” Robinson said. “It’s a depreciation asset for businesses, provides local U.S. jobs and will modernize the U.S. electrical grid. … As more businesses adopt environmental stewardship policies and as consumers look for congruency with brands they trust, having a sustainability policy, including green initiatives, is becoming a greater advantage now that solar is an affordable investment.”

Robinson graduated from Salisbury High School in 1980 and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Winston-Salem State University. Prior to launching Black Claw Energy, Robinson’s career included working for the U.S. Army (82nd Airborne Division, 525 Military Intelligence), N.C. Employment Security Commission, N.C. Department of Commerce Commerce and NC Department of Health and Human Services.
