Rowan fair continues through Saturday

The Rowan County Agricultural & Industrial Fair continues tonight through Saturday night with lots of special events, exhibits, rides, food vendors and games.
Gates will open at 4 p.m. this afternoon through Friday and at noon on Saturday. Exhibit buildings open at 4 p.m. and close at 10. Rides will operate through Friday beginning at 5 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 11:30 p.m., when the fair will officially close.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and children ages 6-12. Children under 6 are admitted free.
Parking is $1, and all proceeds will go to the nonprofits from which volunteers are assisting with parking vehicles.
School Days continues tonight and Wednesday night, during which public school children from designated area schools will be admitted for only $1 or a donation of two cans of food.
On opening night Monday, adults who brought four cans of food were admitted free. Cam Campbell, volunteer program manager for Rowan Helping Ministries, said there was a tremendous response to the Monday Special.
Fair officials delivered a flatbed of food Monday night and still had another half of a flatbed to deliver, she said on Tuesday.
Special events tonight include a Figure 8 and Powder Puff Derby and Market Lamb Show, both at 7, and a Lamb Sale at 7:30.
On Thursday, clients and residents of RHA, Rowan Homes, Rowan Vocational Opportunities and The Arc/Rowan will be admitted free. The Rowan County Jr. 4-H Dog Show will be held at 6 p.m.
On Friday, a Dairy Cow Dress Up Contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. and a Demolition Derby for 8. Events planned for Saturday include a Dairy Cattle Show at 1 p.m., Rowan County Natural Beauty Pageant at 5 p.m., a drawing for prizes at 6 p.m. and Professional Lawnmower Races at 7 p.m.
The Rowan County Agricultural & Industrial Fair is held at its permanent fairgrounds between Interstate 85 and Old Concord Road at 1560 Julian Road, three miles south of Salisbury.
