Church homecomings continue this month

Christiana Lutheran Christiana Lutheran Church will celebrate homecoming this Sunday. The Rev. Woodrow Frick will preach.
Frick has served five congregations in North and South Carolina. He is currently serving as the interim pastor at New Bethel, Richfield.
Homecoming festivities at Christiana will begin at 9:25 a.m. with Sunday school. The homecoming teacher will be Mark Frazer from Bethel Colony of Mercy, a Christian alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility for men located in Lenoir. The day’s loose offering will go to Bethel.
Worship begins at 10:30 a.m., led by the Rev. Carl Haynes. The Chancel Choir will sing.
Following worship the congregation will gather in the fellowship hall for a covered dish luncheon.
Following lunch Nathan Brown House Inc. will sponsor an open house of the Nathan Brown House. NBH Inc. is currently restoring the home that Christiana Lutheran and St. Luke’s Reformed Congregations were formed in.
Christiana is located five miles east of Interstate 85 on Highway 52 near East Rowan High School.

St. Luke Baptist
St. Luke Baptist Church, 410 Hawkinstown Road, will celebrate its annual missionary program 4 p.m., Sept. 20.The Rev. Barbara Barbour, formerly of Salisbury, will be the guest speaker. She is the pastor of White Cross AME Church in Efland, and is a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is the author of “Herstory as Women, Pastor, Preacher.”
She was elected Herstoriographer of the AME Women’s in Ministry at the 2004-08 General Conference held in St. Louis, Mo.
The Rev. Barbour was ordained an itinerant Elder in 1983 in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She has served on several civic boards and is founder of Adams Inspirational AME Zion Church in Clinton, Md. where the missionary society is named in her honor.
The Rev. Arthur L. Heggins and members invite the public to attend. Light refreshments will be served following the program.

Liberty AME Zion
COOLEEMEE ó Liberty AME Zion Church, 271 Gladstone Road in Cooleemee, will celebrate homecoming this Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Lee, pastor of Southern City AME Zion Church.
Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Revival will be Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 22-24 with services at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s speaker is the Rev. Treshaun Kendall of Ardis Chapel AME Zion Church; Wednesday is the Rev. David Rankin of South Iredell AME Zion Church; Thursday’s speaker is the Rev. Arthur Heaggins of St. Luke Baptist Church.

Rockwell UMC
ROCKWELL ó Rockwell United Methodist Church, 430 E. Main St., will celebrate homecoming on Sept. 20 at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Warren W. Miller, will speak. He is the current pastor of the church.
A Service of Remembrance will be part of the worship experience along with recognition of members both present and past. Special music will also be provided.

Gethsemane Baptist
Sept. 20 is homecoming Sunday at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. The speaker for the 10:45 a.m. service will be the church’s pastor, the Rev. Dr. Clary L. Phelps. The 3 p.m. speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Henry C. McNeill, pastor of First Baptist Church of Kannapolis. His choir, ushers and congregation will join him.
A noted revivalist and evangelist, McNeill has preached from coast to coast in the U.S. as well as at several state conventions and Baptist Associations. He is a church planter and currently oversees the work of several churches in North Carolina and Virginia as a spiritual father. Biker Sunday
KANNAPOLIS ó Kimball Lutheran Church will be hosting its 4th annual Biker Sunday this Sunday.
Music will begin at 10 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m. There will be an outdoor worship service which will include a “Blessing of the Bikes.”
Each biker will receive a free photo of their bike that will be taken as they enter the parking area. A free hot dog lunch will follow worship. Bikers will offer rides to children of all ages.
Kimball Lutheran is located at 101 Vance St. in downtown Kannapolis, in the Research Campus.
The churchwill be collecting donations for the Bible Teach Associations for both Kannapolis City and Cabarrus and Rowan County Schools.Bible study
A “Precept Upon Precept” Bible study at Maranatha Bible Church will be held Thursdays, 7-9 p.m. for eight weeks. Registration and orientation is Oct. 1. at 7 p.m.
The study is written by Kay Arthur, a well-known speaker, broadcaster and author. The study is designed for both the serious student with seminary experience and the individual who has never studied the Bible before.

Pine Ridge Baptist
CHINA GROVE ó Pine Ridge Baptist Church is holding its 61st homecoming this year. In years past, homecomings were held in May.
Special music will be provided by the Singing Deacons, playing acoustic instruments. and singing old hymns and Southern gospel songs in bluegrass style.
After the service, lunch will be served in the fellowship hall.
There will be no Sunday school, the worship service will start at 10 a.m. and there will be no evening service.

The Oak Grove Baptist Church family will be observing the anniversary service for the Rev. and Mrs. James I. Smith beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 23 through Friday Sept. 25 and on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Lebanon Lutheran
CLEVELAND ó Lebanon Lutheran Church, 1200 Thompson Road, will celebrate its 116th homecoming anniversary on Sept. 20. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Wayne Nelson from the N.C. Lutheran Synod Staff and the Rev. John Tucker will be assisting in worship leadership.
Sunday school begins at 9:15 a.m. Worship and Thanksgiving service begins at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a church-wide pot-luck dinner.

United Missionary
KANNAPOLIS ó The Rev. John E. Jones and the congregation of United Missionary Baptist Church invite the public to join in a revival to be held at UMBC, 3001 Claremont Ave., Kannapolis.
The Rev. Roger Williamson, pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Mt. Ulla, will open the homecoming services on Sept. 20, starting at 3 p.m. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.
The revival services will begin on Monday, Sept. 21 and continue through Friday, Sept. 25 starting nightly at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Tracy Caldwell, pastor of New Piney Grove Baptist Church of Kannapolis, will be the evangelist of the week.

Emmanuel revival
Emmanuel Church, 2300 Bringle Ferry Road, will be hosting revival services starting Sunday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and Monday through Wednesday services each night at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Evangelist Greg Lentz. There will be special music at each service.
Hall’s Chapel
Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church will observe its 64th homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m.
Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. Elder Kenneth D. Smith, pastor of Holly Grove primitive Baptist Church of Concord, will deliver the homecoming message, accompanied by his officers, choirs and congregation.
Revival is Monday, Sept. 21 through Wed. Sept. 23, at 7:30 nightly.
The evangelist for the three nights will be Elder Timothy L. Lyons of The Exodus Primitive Baptist Church, Mount Airy.
Jerusalem Baptist
SPENCER ó The Pastor’s Aide Society of Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long St., will sponsor a Rainbow Tea Saturday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall.
Linda Stoner, president of the society, will narrate and present the “Rainbow of Colors.” Table sponsors are: orange, Ruth Long; yellow, LaShunda Horton; pink, Ada Witte; black, Connie O’Kelly; white, Phyllis Luther; red, Idella Watkins; melon, Debra Wood; purple, Charryse Jones; blue, Pat Boyd; and green,Carolyn Holt.

New Creation Baptist
STATESVILLE ó New Creation Baptist Church will celebrate its annual homecoming this Sunday at 3 p.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Samuel Washington, pastor of Solid Rock Church of God, Salisbury.
The service will be held at the Statesville Civic Center. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m.
Revival will begin on Monday, Sept. 21-23, at 7 p.m., at the church. The speaker will be the Rev. Reginald McConneaughey Sr., pastor of God’s Tabernacle for Believers in Rockwell.
South China Grove
CHINA GROVE ó Sunday night at 6:30 p.m., South China Grove Church of God, 163, Third Ave., will host guest speaker Kathy Hall. Hall has inspired churches’ conferences around the world with her unique style of ministry.
Special singing will be offered by local singers. Refreshments in the fellowship hall will follow the service.

New Hope Lutheran
KANNAPOLIS ó A yard sale and bake sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, 8 a.m. to noon at New Hope Lutheran Church, 1615 Brantley Road., Kannapolis. Breakfast biscuits will be served. Proceeds benefit building fund.
Family Safety Day will also be held Sept. 26, beginning at 10 a.m. Activities and presentations will be provided by Kannapolis Fire Department, Kannapolis Police Department, and American Red Cross.

Preaching mission
LEXINGTON ó First United Methodist Church of Lexington, 310 S. Main St., will celebrate its 28th annual Mayme Weaver Preaching Mission Sept. 20 and 21.
Dr. Ben Witherington III will be the guest minister. Witherington is Amos Professor of New Testament for Doctoral Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary and on the doctoral faculty at St. Andrews University in Scotland.
A graduate of UNC, Chapel Hill, he received a Ph.D. from the University of Durham in England. He is now considered one of the top evangelical scholars in the world.
A popular lecturer, Witherington has presented seminars for churches, colleges and biblical meetings not only in the United States but also in many other countries.
Witherington has written more than 30 books and is a frequent contributor to the Beliefnet website. He has been seen on the History Channel, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and The Discovery Channel.
Worship service will be held at 11 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20. A reception will be held after the evening service. On Monday, there will be another worship service at 7 p.m.
The public is invited. A nursery will be provided at the church during all worship services for children up to 4 years old.
Calvary Lutheran
SPENCER ó Calvary Lutheran Church, 303 Fifth St., will have a homecoming celebration and dinner Sunday.A Holy Communion Service will be at 11 a.m., followed by a covered dish dinner at 12:30 p.m.
The Rev. Byron White will be guest pastor, and the Rev. and Mrs. White will be guest speakers at the celebration dinner. The public is invited to come and bring a covered dish.

Hash’s anniversary
EAST SPENCER ó Love Christian Center, 102 N. Long St., celebrates the 17th pastoral anniversary of Bishop W. Ronald Hash and First Lady Lotis Hash this Sunday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The 11 a.m. morning worship speaker will be Pastor Troy Russell He founded Grace Worship Center in Salisbury and Going the Extra Mile Ministry, which works with prisoners, at risk youth, shelters, and others.
Russell works at Livingstone College as an admissions counselor and adjunct teacher in the religion department.
The 5 p.m. speaker will be Bishop Theotis White, senior pastor of Zion Hopewell Full Gospel Family Worship Center in Gilbert, S.C. The public is invited.
