Staff report
Regional cross country meets will be held Saturday, Nov. 2.
Teams may enter up to seven runners. It takes a minimum of five runners to post a team score.
Regionals determine which teams and which individuals advance to the state meets that will be held on Nov. 9.
North Piedmont Conference teams are competing this year in the 3A West Regional, which is different. The NPC has been in the Midwest.
That means an earlier wake-up time and a longer trip for the boys and girls representing Carson, West Rowan and East Rowan.
They’ll run on the Freedom High School course in Morganton.
The boys will be on the line at 10, while the girls will start at 10:30.
Carson’s Rowan County and NPC champion girls will be a team to watch.
Qualifying for state:
-
- Top 25 percent of teams (at least 5 runners) participating in the regional championship, or top 4, whichever is greater.
- Also, the top 7 individuals not on a qualifying team
- Rounding scale: If 25 percent is below .5, round down. If it is .5 or higher, round up (i.e. 6.45 = 6 teams; 6.5 = 7 teams)
Salisbury, South Rowan and the other Central Carolina Conference teams will compete in today’s 2A Midwest Regional at Fisher River Park in Dobson (Surry County).
South Rowan’s boys, champions of Rowan County and the CCC, will be a team to watch.
South Piedmont Conference teams are in the 3A Midwest Regional at Charlotte’s McAlpine Greenway Park.
Central Piedmont Conference teams are in the 4A Midwest Regional at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.
