J. Wesley “Wes” Thompson has withdrawn as a candidate for Salisbury City Council.
Thompson signed his official withdrawal notice with the Rowan County Board of Elections Thursday.
Thompson, who currently lives on Heilig Avenue, said an “unforeseen opportunity” to relocate in the future to family property outside the Salisbury city limits prompted his decision to withdraw.
“We can’t pass it up,” said Thompson, who is employed by Rowan County.
“The bottom line is, follow your heart, follow the Lord, and you’ll never go wrong.”
Thompson’s name will still appear on the Nov. 3 ballot, because it already has been printed.
His departure means there will now be 12 candidates for the five City Council seats, each of which is up for a two-year term.
The remaining candidates are Charles Black, Maggie Blackwell, Carl Dangerfield, Blake Jarman, Ben Johnson, William “Pete” Kennedy, Susan Kluttz, Mark Lewis, Brian Miller, William Peoples, Paul Woodson and Michael Young.
