ALBEMARLE ó A news conference has been scheduled for Thursday to announce the federal indictments of at least nine defendants who were involved in a highly organized home burglary ring for several years in both North and South Carolina.
The burglaries targeted homes in Stanly, Cabarrus, Anson, Rowan, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Davidson, Mecklenburg and Union counties, and the counties of York and Marlboro in South Carolina.
Hundreds of home burglaries are attributed to this gang where hundreds of thousands of dollars of personal property was stolen, including more than 125 firearms. Ten law enforcement agencies, along with ATF, conducted a joint investigation to track down the burglars.
Representatives from the following agencies will answer questions regarding their roles in the investigation: sheriff’s offices from Stanly, Cabarrus, Anson, Rowan, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Davidson, Union and Randolph, the Albemarle Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The news conference begins at 2 p.m. at the Stanly Commons Building, 1000 N. First St., Albemarle.
