City Council tasks lobbyist with project funding needs
The farmers market should be a permanent installation over in the old Kesler Mill property on Martin Luther King Jr. and Park avenues, giving it plenty of room to grow and serving an area that could use access to nutritional food and breathing life into the old neighboorhood.
— Sue McHugh
Letter: Why create separate Salisbury mayoral race?
More so than a separate mayoral race, how about creating wards so there can be equal representation for all residents of Salisbury?
— Regina Dancy
Letter: Be aware of Wells Fargo parking lot towing
Wells Fargo closed that branch. I’m not sure if it still owns the building and parking area, but to have cars towed is uncalled for.
There is not enough parking available on the streets, and to do this is just unbelievable. Go Burrito across the street from this lot has no spaces for parking for the number of customers it serves.
— James Lambert
If I was a local business about to move downtown, I would be cautious about aggressive towing after hours.
This is a small town. Towing can hurt a businesses’ good will in the community and that can hurt future sales. As a business owner, sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and ignore it.
— Michael Young
Well it pays to read the signs. They don’t put them there for nothing.
— Tony D. Peeler
Parking is a preimum in the downtown area and all businesses should welcome folks to park in their area if they are closed and don’t need the spaces for their customers. We need to keep the downtown area available for all to enjoy.
— Toni Megliorino
If the bank is closed, what constitutes “after banking hours?”
No parking all day and all night?
— Cale Alligood
My Turn, Elizabeth Trick: Solve Knox problems now …
Other school systems manage to build new schools on existing school properties. Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County Schools did it within the last few years to replace an elementary school.
We can do a better job for the students and families in these two schools.
— Debbie Wilson Lesley
I have read that K-8 schools are more effective at socializing middle school-aged students; if there are good programs in place connecting the older students with the younger students (tutoring, special projects, cooperative activities, etc.), everyone benefits.
— Kyle Harris
This was the plan discussed in 2013 or 2014 before I retired — a K-8 academy housing Knox and Overton. You are right on target with your suggestion.
— Betty Fannin Tunks
Editorial: In Rowan, work toward positive politics
Mayor Al Heggins could not be a more courgeous or committed example of “mayors who find ways to unite people with different opinions around common solutions.”
— Whitney Peckman
The editorial states, “And in Salisbury, there is more controversey and divisiveness than one would think.”
Yeah, and most of it is fueled, and some of it started, by the Post’s editorial staff.
— Mike-o Martelli
… Landis mayoral candidate Abernathy endorses Smith …
Mr. Abernathy, why did you wait until the day before the election to say this? The people of Landis who voted during early voting who did vote for you do not get a do-over. Their votes now are useless.
— Margaret Deadmon
… Commissioners move forward on
$45 million bond …
Would the improvements at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s campus include facilities for the Early College students, or are those promises still being kicked down the road?
— Pam Laury
Ada Fisher: Do we need to make 18 legal age of adulthood?
No, we do not need to make 18 the legal age of adulthood. Without controversy, brain science and research shows that the adolescent brain does not reach maturity until the mid-20s.
— Karen South Jones
… Intoxicated woman says she accidentally ran over fiancé
Call Judge Judy on this one.
— Ron Turbyfill
Salisbury sticks with incumbents, Alexander leads vote
How shallow is any victory when the majority fails to participate?
— Renee Wimbish
I encourage Karen Alexander to break with tradition and enable Al to remain mayor of Salisbury.
This simple, honorable and just decision is in keeping with the vote of the people to change the mayoral election process and, more importantly, is the right thing to do for Salisbury for equity and for social justice.
— Christine Higby Wilson
… May murder
of Michael Earley released on bond
I pray for all families who struggle with their children and hope they will learn that drugs are not the answer. Jesus is the answer.
— George Teo
My turn, Michael Stringer: Trump, Jackson …
I don’t agree with a lot of things Trump says and does, but I support him because he puts America first and jobs are returning.
— Ron Scruggs
