People lining up at the next food distribution sponsored by the Altrusa Club on Sept. 17 have new instructions to follow to ensure safety.
Recipients will be allowed to start lining up at the Salisbury Civic Center no earlier than 4 a.m. that day for the 9 a.m. distribution.
Anyone who arrives before that time will be asked to leave. Salisbury Police will patrol the area.
“For your safety and the safety of others, you will not be permitted to reserve a place in line with chairs, etc.,” the evening before the distribution, said a press release from the organization.
Those who line up after 4 a.m. will receive a number to indicate their place in line.
The distribution will end at 1 p.m. or whenever all the food is gone.
The distribution is open to residents of Rowan County only, and they must disclose total gross monthly household income or, for food stamp recipients, provide the letters that were mailed to them.
The following are examples of the income guidelines:
– Household of one: $1,174.00
– Two people: $1,579.
– Four people: $2,389.
– Six people: $3,200.
Food provided for this distribution by the U.S. Department of Agriculture includes blackeye beans, frozen blueberries, carrots, chicken, UHT milk, mixed fruit, orange juice, canned pork, peaches, pears, tomatoes, flour and peanut butter.
In accordance with federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture, the group does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, color, disabiltiy, sex or age.
The Altrusa Club and the Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department sponsor the distribution.
