Work begins today on sections of I-85
GASTONIA ó Work is set to begin today on rehabilitating 1.7 miles of Interstate 85 in Gaston County, a project funded with federal economic recovery money.
The project will go from mile marker 22 to mile marker 23.8 east of Gastonia beginning at 7 p.m., weather permitting.The state Department of Transportation awarded the $805,406 contract to Rea Contracting, LLC of Charlotte. Work is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 2.
Work will include pavement resurfacing. Motorists can expect lane closures on this section of I-85 each night from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, every $1 million spent on transportation creates 30 jobs, and according to the construction industry, every dollar invested in transportation trickles down into the economy six times.
