Rowan Rose Society

The Rowan Rose Society, a local organization affiliated with the American Rose Society headquartered in Shreveport, Louisiana, has won top honors in many categories this year.

The Golden Shovel Award for 2019 was presented to Leslie Lee of China Grove and her family for outstanding work and support for the success of the annual Rose Show last May and for her many years of dedication as the treasurer of the RRS.

Sara Hill took top honors in the arrangement category at the Charlotte Rose Show at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens on Sept. 27, winning the Gold Certificate (artistic award) and the Bronze Certificate (Duchess Award —fresh roses with dried material).

Ben and Frances Agner received an ARS Presidential Citation by National Treasurer Jack Page on Oct. 15 for 15 years of service in managing the Triangle Rose Garden on West Innes Street, Salisbury.

Robert Myers and Jack Page won the Best of Show in addition to 36 first place blue ribbons at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh on Oct. 16. They also received the Jan Shivers National Miniature Rose Trophy at the ARS National Show and Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, on Oct. 5. This award is very special to Myers, Page and to the local Rose Society as one of the roses that won was a Doris Morgan rose, named for a past member of the local society.

The Rowan Rose Society will hold its last meeting of 2019 on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. at John Calvin Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on Brenner Avenue in Salisbury. This will be the annual holiday meal and installation of officers for 2020. Roses are for everyone. Those interested in growing roses and becoming a member of the RRS are encouraged to come.
