Letter: Why the increase in property values this year?
Salisbury is up this year as well, over 300 for us.
An article in the paper said commissioners are talking another 3-cent hike for community college capital. Where you “tea” ninjas at?
— Brian Pfaff
Talkback, what online readers say about
Sounds like there are a few sore losers out there. It’s a good time to work together and move Salisbury forward in a positive way.
— Cathy Cowan Basinger
Laugh with and at ‘Vanya and Masha and Sonia and Spike’
Anything starring Mary Ann McCubbin and her son Jonathon Coarsey is bound to be fantastic.
— Kathy Walters
Letter: Trump not familiar with rule of law, Constitution
It’s pretty obvious the Democrats do not understand the Constitution more so than anyone else.
— Adam Tyler Smith
I am of the belief that we have no choice but to move this into the senate for a trial.
Then, and only then, will the truth be heard instead of the short snippets, sound bites and statements taken out of context to cause confusion and manipulate the minds of the people.
— Maria Rossi
City Council by the numbers …
What are you saying in an article that doesn’t announce the predominant color of any precincts in which Karen Alexander received most votes?
What predominant color is the West Ward 1, as if we can’t surmise from the article?
The implication here is a blatant announcement that if you want a white or black council, you know where you have to influence the vote. Beware the waking giant, though.
— Whitney Peckman
I read the Post article as a straight news piece that gives the precintcs and the numbers. I don’t have a clear understanding of skin color and precinct or even where the precintcs are, and I’ve lived here my whole life.
— Sam Post
It also struck me the author of this article felt it necessary to point out that West Ward 3 is predominantly black. If you’re going to throw that in there for Mayor Al Heggins’ statistics, then why not tell us about the rest of the wards racial make up?
— Angel Barber
Why do y’all readers care about the racial make-up of the areas that voted for a specific candidate? I want to elect the person/people who can lead our community based on skill and experience, not by race or sex or religion.
— Brian Keith Maher
Imagine if all simply voted for the best candidate, instead of focusing on race.
— James Bostwick
Letter: Helping writer recognize errors
When I was kid, I used to try deflect justified discipline from mom and dad by pointing to my younger brothers’ mideeds. It never worked. The misdeeds of others don’t excuse our misdeeds.
— Richard D. Sorensen
New traffic lanes open on I-85 in southern Rowan …
They are destroying this area — so many trees and property removed and don’t forget the wildlife displaced.
— Cathy Hudson
What they forgot to add is that part of Old Beatty Ford road will be closed due to road construction.
— Renee Jackson
Why are they putting three roundabouts up, with China Grove having a large transportation hub? They may have made it a full exit, but the functionality of the new road is not optimal.
— Tim Edwards
I have a business on Old Beatty Ford Road that has been family-owned for 30 years. Since they have been doing this project to old Beatty Ford Road for 18 months, I have lost a lot of business — so much that I may have to shut it down.
— Chad Cheeseman
… Jackie Miller: No place for prosecutorial …
When prosecutors and district attorneys are more concerned with maintaining a high success rate than seeking the truth, people who do not have gigantic bank accounts are fighting an uphill battle.
Pay attention to the district attorney’s office in your city and see which side it falls on: seeking truth or improving their stats.
— Regina Dancy
Rowan legislators mixed on whether a state budget will pass
I’m not going to forget about the surprise 9/11 vote by NC’s House. It upsets me and makes me fearful of a delibrative body behaving in this way, even if they think their actions are sanctioned by their supporters.
— Brian Pfaff
Pay the teachers a living wage, help the poor and elderly with health care and release the funds to move Salisbury forward. Fair congressional maps, too.
— George W. Benson
Letter: Is quid pro quo even illegal for president?
If using the power of the Office of the President of the United States to leverage a foreign country to investigate a political rival for personal gain, is not an impeachable offense, then nothing is impeachable.
— Eric Shock
It is obvious that security aid was held up for about two months and only released after the leverage was made public.
If the tweeter-in chief is innocent, all he has to do is testify to that or send in his “acting chief of staff” to testify and we can get back to business.
— Eric Marsh
