North Hills Christian School’s enrollment for 2009-2010 is at its highest number in seven years and is continuing to rise.
Matt Mitchell, head of the school, said this year’s enrollment is 292, an 11 percent increase over last year’s enrollment of 262.
“Our North Hills faculty strives to provide an educational program that is academically challenging and spiritually transforming,” Mitchell said. “People are embracing that. Our mission is to ‘equip the hearts and minds of students to impact the world for Christ.’ ”
Trent Gobble, a junior at North Hills, said, “I think that more and more students and families want Christian values, a Christian environment and a small close-knit community with academics.”
Senior Dustin Pruitt said, “North Hills feels like a family. The faculty and staff really care about us and are supportive.”
Mitchell also attributed the recent enrollment increase to the school’s supportive community. “Many individuals have given faithfully and tirelessly of their time, talents and treasure over the past four decades to build and strengthen North Hills,” he said “and they continue to do so. We are grateful for their partnership.
This year, North Hills has expanded its admissions department, the gifted and special needs programs and added Latin to the foreign language offerings for grades 1-12, Mitchell said. The school has also tripled its tuition assistance over the past two years to help families who have encountered job losses and to assist families who want Christian schooling, but could otherwise not afford it.
North Hills is the area’s largest private school and holds accreditations from the Association of Christian Schools International and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The co-ed, college-preparatory day school is located at 2970 W. Innes St., just west of Catawba College. For more information, contact Nikki Eagle at 704-636-3005, ext. 109, or log onto the school’s Web site at www.northhillschristian.com.
