KANNAPOLIS ó A Kannapolis man died after being struck by a car Saturday morning.
Police say a driver intentionally struck Jimmy Douglas Mauldin, 51. Mauldin was airlifted by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and died Saturday evening.
Kannapolis Police received a 911 call about 7:35 a.m. reporting that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the 1500 block of Pine Street. The responding officers located Mauldin lying beside the road.
The initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Berry Alton Cook Jr., 28, of Kannapolis, intentionally hit the victim, who was standing well off the roadway, police said.
Cook was charged Saturday afternoon with attempted murder before Mauldin died. Cook was being held in the Cabarrus County Jail under $2 million bond.
