KANNAPOLIS ó An agriculture program at the N.C. Research Campus has launched a new Web site for the state’s strawberry growers.
The N.C. State University Program for Value-Added & Alternative Agriculture in Kannapolis developed the Strawberry Growers Information Portal with a grant from the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.
The information portal brings together on one Web site all the resources pertaining to business management and production of strawberries in North Carolina.
N.C. Cooperative Extension agents and growers can visit the site to find research-based information specific to North Carolina strawberry production.
Information portals are intended to save growers and extension agents time and effort by creating a one-stop shop for a specific agricultural commodity ó in this case, strawberries. Development of portals for other crops is underway.
New growers will find resources specific to start-up, while new and experienced growers will recognize the convenience of the climate links.
The Web site also offers virtual resources, including video demonstrations of production tools and interactive budget spreadsheets.
The Program for Value-Added & Alternative Agriculture in Kannapolis is a multidisciplinary team that builds partnerships and educational resources to help North Carolina agriculture be more profitable.
The program hired the state’s first dedicated strawberry breeder last year. The team works closely with N.C. Cooperative Extension personnel who work with farmers across the state.
