Two drivers were airlifted from the scene of a serious wreck on Airport Road Saturday night.
The accident occurred just west of Gaskey Road shortly after 9 p.m.
According to Battalion Chief Jay Baker of the Salisbury Fire Department, a Honda minivan and a Cadillac Escalade struck head-on.
The van came to rest off the road, facing the wrong way next to the eastbound lane. The Escalade remained in the middle of the road.
Both drivers had to be extracted from their vehicles.
The names of the drivers could not be obtained Saturday night.
There were two children in the Honda van, Baker said. They did not appear to be seriously injured.
According to personnel on the scene, a family member came to pick the children up.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to the Rowan County Airport, where Baker said they were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
