SALISBURY — The public is invited to attend the 14th annual Pictures With Santa fundraiser at South Salisbury Fire Department from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the fire station, 3207 Old Concord Road.
Guests can take their own photos, but the department requests that people buy at least one 4-by-6-inch photo for $5 from the department. Multiple prints can be purchased as well. No appointment is necessary.
Pets also are welcome to be in photos.
T-shirts are available for purchase in toddler, youth and adult sizes. Toddler sizes available are 18-month, 2T and 3T. Youth sizes are from XS to L. Adult sizes are from S to 2XL.
T-shirts are $10 for toddler and youth sizes and $15 for adult sizes.
The youth and toddler T-shirts recognize them as a fire department rookie and have animated graphics of equipment on the reverse side. The adult T-shirt is a standard supporter T-shirt of the fire department.
The department will also have a number of giveaways for both adults and children as well as firetruck and station tours.
All money raised will go toward the purchase of a commercial dryer for firefighting equipment. The cost of the dryer is about $10,000. The department continues working to reduce occupational exposure to the harmful effects of cancer-causing agents, which are absorbed during firefighting.
The dryer would enable the department to increase the number of times firefighting gear is laundered, removing or limiting the harmful cancer-causing agents while reducing the downtime of the gear to quickly be placed back into service.
The department is looking for men and women to serve as volunteers with all types of backgrounds, skills and abilities. No experience is necessary. Firefighters, medical responders, drivers and truck operators, support personnel and anyone wishing to volunteer are welcome.
Anyone who lives near the South Salisbury community who is interested in becoming a volunteer should stop by the fire station, email the department at southsalisbury@outlook.com or call 704-637-3873 for more information.
