Livingstone men score 115 in rout of Morris

SALISBURY — Livingstone shot 55 percent from the floor and 84 percent from the foul line in crushing Morris, 115-69, in a college men’s basketball game here Tuesday evening at New Trent Gym.
Livingstone dominated from the beginning, leading by halftime, 57-30. The Blue Bears improve to 5-2 overall while Morris falls to 0-10.
LC coach James Stinson used 18 players in the rout, and four scored in double figures — Lydell Elmore (13), Navar Elmore (12), Roger Ray (12) and O’Koye Parker (10).
Navar Elmore had a particularly strong game, going 6-for-6 from the floor and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. His brother, Lydell, made 6-of-10 shots and pulling down six boards.
Ray, the senior star guard, made just 3-of-10 shots from the floor but he did sink 5-of-6 free throws. Ray’s 12 points brings him to within 22 of the school career scoring record.
Jeff Persall as the Livingstone career scoring record with 1,464 points. Ray now has 1,442.
Demetrius Knox led Morris with a game-high 21 points. Dekwan Burns followed with 11 points and Frederick Brown added 10.
The Blue Bears out-rebounded the Hornets, 56-32.
Livingstone returns to action on Thursday, hosting Virginia State in the nightcap of a CIAA doubleheader. The LC women play the Trojans at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game.
