Boy Scout Troop 379 and Venture Crew 379 will conduct a U.S. flag retirement ceremony at Granite Lake Park at noon Saturday.
The Granite Quarry Fire Department will assist with the ceremony. The flag code states, “Soiled flags may be renovated by either washing or dry cleaning. Worn out flags should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning.”
The units have collected more than 65 U.S. flags that will be retired. These flags are from various institutions across the state with two from the Asheville area and several from the Badin Lake area.
If local organizations have flags that need to be retired, they may bring them to the ceremony.
Troop 379 and Crew 379 are chartered to the Granite Quarry Civitan Club.
