Salisbury-based Food Lion recently named the regional winners of the company’s Store Manager Excellence Award. The winners were honored at Food Lion’s annual leadership summit in March.
Food Lion’s Store Manager Excellence Award selection process includes nine areas of focus, including associate development, leadership, strategic decision-making, cross-organizational collaboration and teamwork, executional excellence, extraordinary results, great customer experiences, community involvement and diversity and inclusion.
“The Store Manager Excellence Award is one of the highest honors for our associates,” said Meg Ham, senior vice president of brand operations. “This year’s winners consistently deliver great customer experiences and great experiences for our Food Lion LLC associates. I’m thrilled to recognize the outstanding performance of these store managers who operate their stores with care and excellence every day.”
The 24 regional winners were selected from a group of more than 100 district winners.
Winners in N.C. stores include Sammy Hales, Morrisville; Ron Petty, Southern Shores; Ron Davis, Hamlet, Robert Heathcock, Newton Grove; Atiya Simmons, Greensboro; Trino Molio, Charlotte; Julie Webster, Sunset Beach; and Andy Knox, Blowing Rock.
Food Lion LLC is a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group. Food Lion LLC operates approximately 1,300 supermarkets, either directly or through affiliated entities, under the names of Food Lion, Bloom, Bottom Dollar Food, Harveys and Reid’s.

Queens Gifts to host exclusive handcrafted jewelry show
Queens Gifts of 221 S. Main St., Salisbury, has announced that Meredith Restein, designer and founder of Moonrise Jewelry, a Virginia-based handcrafted jewelry company, will present an exclusive Trunk Show of new and limited edition designs from 4-8 p.m. May 8.
Named as one of Meryl Streep’s “Top Green Product Picks,” Moonrise Jewelry’s signature designs include Real Orchid Blossom Necklaces and Eco-Stylish Jewelry made with recycled, renewable and fair trade materials.
Restein and co-designer Liz Watson founded the company in 2002 with a mission of promoting community development, ethical sourcing, and environmental stewardship through a sustainable social enterprise.
Moonrise Jewelry has been featured on NBC’s Today Show, Lucky magazine, TLC’s What Not to Wear and the Chicago Tribune.
The Trunk Show will offer an opportunity to meet the designer and showcase new limited edition and one-of-a-kind designs. A Real Orchid Blossom Necklace will be offered as a door prize to a guest attending the event.

Carillon Assisted Living wins awards
At a recent awards banquet, Carillon Assisted Living of Salisbury was chosen for several awards in recognition of outstanding care of its residents and success of its team members.
Carillon Assisted Living of Salisbury provides care and services to nearly 100 senior adults, assisting residents with meal preparation, medication administration, bathing, dressing, activities, transportation and more.
It also offers a specialized program for those with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia.
Carillon Assisted Living of Salisbury received the highest honor awarded by the company each year, being selected as the Best Overall Facility for 2008.
The award is decided based on clinical and state regulatory compliance, resident and family satisfaction, team member satisfaction, financial performance and the operational performance of each of the departments in the facility.
In addition, Carillon Assisted Living of Salisbury received the following awards:
– Wendy Livengood, Best Community Management;
– Lora Braithwait, Best Clinical Performance;
– Suzanne Rose, Marketing Director of the Year;
– Chuck Noto, Maintenance Director of the Year;
– Best Team Member Continuity, recognizing longevity and tenure of its associates;
– An award for being deficiency-free during its 2008 state survey with the N.C. Division of Health and Human Services.
Supervisor-In-Charge/Med Tech Angela Gladden also was recognized as the Salisbury Caregiver of the Year, chosen among 85 team members employed at the Salisbury community.

EnergyUnited officials recognized for service
STATESVILLE ó Two officials of EnergyUnited have been recognized for their years of service to the electric cooperative. Ann M. Eller was recognized for 20 years of service, and Jack B. Wooten was honored for 30 years of service to the cooperative.
The commendable service awards were presented at the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives’ annual meeting in Raleigh April 1-2.
NCAEC is the trade association for the 26 electric cooperatives in North Carolina, including EnergyUnited.
“EnergyUnited is fortunate to have dedicated directors such as Ann Eller and Jack Wooten working for our co-op and our members,” H. Wayne Wilkins, chief executive officer, said. “They epitomize our core values of integrity, commitment and excellence.”
The cooperatives provide electric services to more than 900,000 homes, farms and businesses in North Carolina. The co-ops are not-for-profit organizations that are member-owned and overseen by a board of directors elected by the membership.
Chick-fil-A honors educators May 5
The 43 Chick-fil-A restaurants in the greater Charlotte-area, including Salisbury, are honoring educators on Teacher Appreciation Day, May 5.
Educators who visit a greater Charlotte-area Chick-fil-A from 4 p.m. until the restaurant’s close will receive free Chick-fil-A Chick-n-Strips (three count) when they show their school identification.
The participating market area includes Charlotte, Concord, Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Shelby, Gastonia, Matthews, Lancaster, Monroe, Mooresville, Morganton, Huntersville, Salisbury, Statesville and Hickory.
“As the school year comes to a close, we want to honor those in the education system who tirelessly commit themselves to the teaching of our local students,” said Shannon Holland, Chick-fil-A marketing director for the Charlotte area.
