Kurt Misenheimer informed the Post by text late Wednesday night that he resigned as East Rowan’s head boys basketball coach on Wednesday morning.

Misenheimer stated he was resigning “for personal reasons and the best interest of me and East Rowan basketball.”

A standout in his playing days at East from the 2003-04 season to the 2006-07 season, Misenheimer was in his fifth season as head coach.

Jayvee coach Eric Mulkey took the reins of the Mustangs for Wednesday’s game at Cox Mill.

A story on East’s coaching change is upcoming.

East plays Friday at Davie County.

East Rowan’s boys lost Tuesday at home to North Stanly, 61-54.

Cameron Padgett led East with 14 points. David Jordan scored 12, Jake Hunter had 10, and Landon Shuping had nine.

Koby Poole scored 25 for the Comets (3-2).

East Rowan lost at Cox Mill on Wednesday, 80-42, to fall to 1-7.

Hunter led East with nine points. Shuping, Jordan and Sammy Pinckney scored six each.

Jaquava Propst-Allison led the Chargers (8-1) with 19 points.

Wonders fall

WELCOME — North Davidson’s girls overpowered A.L. Brown on Thursday, 68-38, in a non-confernce matchup.

Emily Hege had 24 points, seven steals and six assists for the Black Knights (5-1), who led 44-17 at halftime.

Courtney McMillan had 12 points and 18 rebounds.

Jala Campbell and Jaliyah Simmons scored 13 each for the Wonders (2-6).

College hoops

Jamarius Hairston (Carson) is the leading scorer for the Davidson County Community College Storm.

The Lander transfer is averaging 20.6 points and 5.0 assists. He’s shooting 47 percent from the floor, 40 percent from 3, and 80 percent from the foul line.

Hairston is making all A’s in the classroom.

Salisbury Academy

  Salisbury Academy competed in the  program’s first swim meet on Monday  at the Summit Holiday Invitational.

The girls were 1-5, defeating  Davidson Day School, 68-43.

Leading the Lady Jags was Ava Morris with a first place in the 100 IM in 1:11.34. She was second in the 50 butterfly.

The boys went 2-4 with wins Canterbury School and Davidson Day.

Leading the Jaguars was Gray Davis with a fifth place in the 100 free.

College football

Defensive lineman Wesley Jefferies (North Rowan) is looking for a new school after Minnesota Crookston, which went 0-11, announced Tuesday that it’s ending the football program.

He made three tackles in Crookston’s final game.

Jefferies (6-4, 290) also has played at Feather River Community College in California and redshirted for a season at North Dakota.

The Army-Navy game will be shown on CBS on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Army back Sandon McCoy (A.L. Brown) has 555 rushing yards and 10 TDs.

Fishing

  The next RoCo Anglers meeting is at 3 p.m. at South Rowan on Saturday.

Several pro anglers will be there to teach   techniques and answer questions.

Local golf

GARS members played at Warrior this week.

‘A’ Flight winner was Allen Hammill with a net of 64.51.

‘B’ Flight winner was Carl Moore with a net of 65.44.

‘C’ Flight winner was Gene Cauble with a net of 63.49.

‘D’ Flight winner was Bob Turner with a net of 71.89.

Donald Martin and Hammill tied for low gross score with 77’s. Gene Cauble won low net score.
