Friday’s roundup ….
West Rowan boys
MOORESVILLE — Seventy-eight points usually will win a high school basketball game, but West Rowan’s boys fell at Pine Lake Prep, 90-78, on Friday.
West wasn’t able to contain Justin Morgan (30 points) and JT Harper (20 points), as PLP improved to 2-4.

The Falcons (3-2) got 17 points from Chaz McCombs, 15 from Jalen Moss, 11 from Jay Joseph and nine each from Macari Allison and Ty’Kese Warren.
West dug a 50-38 hole at halftime, fought all the way back to a 63-62 deficit by the end of the third quarter, but then watched PLP spurt again.

Carson boys
CHINA GROVE — Carson lost to Central Cabarrus in two overtimes on Friday, 65-62.
The game didn’t bear much resemblance to the 35-point beatdown the Vikings gave Carson not long ago.
Homecourt had something do with it, So did an inspired second-half effort by the Cougars, who were down 20 at the break.
“We competed,” Carson coach Brian Perry said. “Defended better and moved the ball a lot better. In the second half, we really battled them.”
EJ Clark scored 20 points, his eighth game this season with at least 20. His night included the deep 3-pointer that sent the game to overtime.
Carson (4-5) got 17 points from Javon Smith, 11 from AJ Mauldin and eight from Jake Harris.

North Rowan boys
SPENCER — Brandon White, the sophomore who stands nearly 6-foot-10, will be a key to North Rowan’s boys basketball season.
The big guy is making progress. He had 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks as the Cavaliers beat Uwharrie Charter Academy in a Yadkin Valley Conference game on Friday.
“Coming along is one way you can put it,” North coach Jason Causby said. “It’s good to get off to a 3-0 start in our league.”
North guard Zay Davis is known more as an athlete and defender than a guy who puts the ball in the hole, but he continues to score effectively for the Cavaliers, who graduated four starters from last season’s powerhouse.
Davis added 14 points.
North (3-1, 3-0) got nine points from young guard Quashawn Carpenter, while senior Denerio Robinson had six rebounds.
North has won three straight since losing its opener to West Rowan.
