Bowie State defeats Livingstone women, remains unbeaten

BOWIE, Md. — Kyaja Williams’ double-double led Bowie State past Livingstone, 62-50, here Monday night in women’s college basketball action.
Williams, a 5-8 senior forward, scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes for Bulldogs, who improve to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the CIAA.
The Blue Bears fall to 3-6 and 1-4 in the conference.
The Bulldogs made 21-of-41 shots, including 5-for-12 from 3-point range. In addition to shooting 51 percent from the floor, Bowie made 15-of-21 free throws.
Meanwhile, Livingstone made just 19-of-63 shots from the floor (30 percent) and shot equally as poor at the charity stripe — 6-of-15 (40 percent).
Bowie had 25 turnovers, comparing to just 10 for the Blue Bears, somewhat keeping Livingstone in the game.
Bowie led at halftime, 26-20, after a low-scoring first 20 minutes. The Bulldogs held the lead during the entire second half, although LC cut the deficit to six points (52-46) with 5:27 remaining, on a layup from Mia Terry.
That was as close as the Blue Bears got as, Shawnkia McCallum scored seven points down the stretch, and Amel Duggins had a big 3-pointer.
Following Williams in the Bowie scoring were McCallum (12), Duggins (11) and Dynaisha Christian (11).
Darra Walker led LC with 17 points, including 5-of-10 from the 3-point arc. Guard Daisa Harris followed with 12 points and Daijah Turner added 11. Adel Allen, who usually contributes double-figure scoring for the Blue Bears, played only four minutes and did not score.
Harris also grabbed seven rebounds, leading her team.
Livingstone returns to action on Thursday, hosting CIAA opponent Shaw for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
