Area Sports: LC men lose on road; Davie splits

BOWIE, Md. —  Livingstone’s men’s basketball team lost at Bowie State, 80-73, on Monday.

Lydell Elmore scored 14 for the Blue Bears (7-4). Cameron Carpenter scored 10.  Bowie State held high-scoring Roger Ray to 11 points and forced him into nine turnovers.

LC was 2-for-10 from 3-point range.

Davie boys win

MOCKSVILLE — Davie County’s boys boosted their record to 6-1 with a 51-34 win against Alexander Central on Monday.

Brooks Johnson scored 17, James Reid had 14, and Za’Haree Maddox had 10.

Jem Lowrance scored 15 for Alexander Central.

HS girls basketball

MOCKSVILLE — Davie lost to Alexander Central on Monday, 69-37.

Davie trailed 30-19 at the break. Elizabeth Johnson led the War Eagles with 18 points.

CONCORD — Aniyah Tate scored 16 points  and Mariah Barrie had 15 to lead Central Cabarrus to a 62-49 win against Huss.

Mid. school girls

North Rowan’s girls rolled in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Monday.

The Mavericks (15-1) beat  Mooresville, 48-17. Bloom Goodlett scored 16 points. Demya Phifer had 14, Dasia Elder had nine, and Bailee Goodlett scored eight. North will play in Wednesday’s championship  game at South Rowan.

Hannah Waddell scored 21 points to lead Erwin to a first-round win on Saturday against Corriher-Lipe.

Allie Martin scored seven, and Kori Miller had six.

Local golf 

The McCanless Couples played a Captains Choice on a beautiful day for December.

Harry Owen, Terrol Kendall and Azalee & David Huneycutt took first place. Dave Ingleston, Susan Wydner and Mary & Gene Seaford came in second. Gene Seaford had longest putt. David Huneycutt had closest to the pin.
