LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) ó Former North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole will join her husband, former Kansas Sen. Bob Dole, to speak at an annual lecture series in Kansas next month.
The couple will deliver their speech, “Unlimited Partners,” on May 3 during an event sponsored by the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
The Doles met in 1972, as she lobbied him to add consumer issues to the Republican platform. They married in December 1975. Bob Dole, the 1996 Republican presidential candidate, served in the Senate from 1969 to 1996. Elizabeth Dole represented North Carolina from 2002 to 2008.
The lecture series is held to commemorate Bob Dole’s recovery from the serious wounds he suffered in April 1945 during World War II.
