Margaret Thompson-Shumate of Salisbury provided this photograph taken in 1961 at the Salisbury Elks Club on South Main Street. The Distributive Education programs at Boyden, East Rowan and North Rowan high schools were hosts for a ‘Bosses Banquet’ to honor all employers of high school students in this program. The theme was a Hawaiian luau. Those pictured are, from left, Robert Allen, North Rowan DE teacher; Hope Fuchs, East Rowan DE teacher; Mickey Jo Riley, East Rowan DE president; Beverly Forrest, the evening’s hula dancer and neighbor of Margaret’s; Margaret herself, who was the Boyden High DE president; Addie Rhem Morris; Boyden DE teacher; and the last person’s identity is not known.
