Cross-dressing robber charged

KANNAPOLIS ó Police have arrested a 31-year-old Kannapolis resident in the robbery of Fifth Third Bank on May 6.
Deshawn Jamel Greene, who dressed as a woman during the robbery, is the the Cabarrus County Jail under $50,000 bond.
He is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, also another weapons offense.
Police also charged Jay Dustin Lear, 31, 2405 McGill St., with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Police say Lear was the driver of the silver car used in the robbery.
Police found the car near Lear’s home in the Enochville community.
Capt. Chuck Adams said the two will also face federal charges dealing with bank robbery.
Landis Police reported an attempted robbery of Sun Trust Bank about 30 minutes prior to the Kannapolis robbery.
Police had broadcast an alert of a possible attempted robbery describing a black man wearing a wig, dress and carrying a purple purse.
