SALISBURY – Salisbury Academy has been reaccredited as a member of the Southern Association of Independent Schools. 

To earn accreditation from SAIS, Salisbury Academy complied with quality standards, was evaluated by an outside group of peer professionals, and implemented a school plan focused on strategic improvement and student performance in accordance with the school’s mission: “Salisbury Academy inspires a love of learning and prepares passionate leaders through discovery, stewardship, community and faith.”

A team representing SAIS conducted an on-site visit to review the school’s self-study and standards compliance and its adherence to its mission.

The team was comprised of educational leaders from institutions in the southeast: Chair Jeff Mitchell of Curry Ingram Academy and team members Tamika Jackson of New Hope Christian Academy, Eddie Mensah of Charlotte Preparatory School and Kim Peele of The Fletcher Academy. 

The visiting team sought the answers to questions the school asked of itself and commended Salisbury Academy on crafting questions that are data-informed, relevant to current needs and opportunities and driven by its mission. 

“Indeed, Salisbury Academy has established a habit of taking on courageous and audacious goals,” Mitchell said. “As we commend their self-study goals, we commend their self-study process as much, or more.”

The self-study process included 18 months of planning with a diverse committee of stakeholders in addition to survey work, stakeholder input sessions and board retreats. The result was three goals which address financial sustainability, programming opportunities, and student support services. 

SAIS accredited schools are part of an international network of schools that have demonstrated success in educating children. As such, SAIS accreditation is recognized throughout the world as a symbol of quality in education for students and teachers. 

SAIS began its organizational life in 1903 as the Mid-South Association of Independent Schools. The mission of SAIS is to provide leadership, accreditation services, and professional development resources that will strengthen member schools as they fulfill their missions.

“Salisbury Academy’s faculty, staff, and stakeholders found the reaccreditation process to be energizing and a wonderful opportunity for strategic analysis and planning,” Head of School Beverly Fowler said. “With a firm understanding of our position and opportunities, we look forward to delivering on our goals and continuing to enhance the learning experience, development and personal growth of our students.” 

Reaccreditation takes place every five years and includes periodic school reporting to SAIS with progress to date on the critical questions and goals outlined.

“The visiting team encountered a community that believes in this school and how it can evolve. Since their beginnings 27 years ago, Salisbury Academy has grown to have a profound impact on the lives of many students and families,” Mitchell said.
