May 3-9 is Teacher Appreciation Week and Mount Ulla Elementary School will join communities across North Carolina in honoring teachers.
When teachers were asked what would make them feel appreciated, more than half who responded said a simple “thank you” would be the best gift, according to a National Education Association poll.
“Take time during this one week out of the year to thank teachers who have touched the lives of children,” said Penny Barger, PTA representative at Mount Ulla Elementary.
“Public schools are the heart of our community and they are the results of the investments of our parents and grandparents. We encourage people to visit our schools. Attend an athletic event, a play, a concert or just drop by and see firsthand how teachers lend their passion and skills to educating our children,” Barger says
“Then take a few moments to say thank you to the men and women who make sure Rowan County’s great schools benefit everyone.”

Stanly weather award
Stanly County will soon have detailed data about local weather conditions and new weather-related projects for school children, thanks to the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) Weather Web competition.
The county is the latest in the list of North Carolina counties awarded a weather station through Weather Web, which aims to enhance weather-related K-12 education and improve the quantity and quality of weather data in underserved areas of the state.
The new weather station will be installed in Stanly County in the fall. The station will collect data about weather in the area, which will be used in a new meteorology education project developed by Jamie Mabry and Beth Everhart, science teachers at New London Choice Middle School.
The station will be installed and maintained by the State Climate Office of North Carolina and will also provide data to emergency response teams, forecasters and state climatologists to be used in forecasting, emergency planning and response and resource management.
