SALISBURY

WELCOME — Salisbury’s girls got the county’s biggest basketball win on Tuesday.

The Hornets took their Central Carolina Conference showdown at North Davidson, 61-47.

North Davidson (11-3, 7-1) played without leading rebounder and No. 2 scorer Courtney McMillan, who has undergone season-ending knee surgery.

Salisbury (11-1, 8-0) put five in double figures to off-set 25 points by North Davidson’s standout sophomore Emily Hege.

“It wasn’t our best offensive night,” SHS coach coach Lakai Brice said. “But it was strong enough. If we get five people in double figures, we’ll be a tough team to beat.”

Rachel McCullough hit two 3-pointers as Salisbury took a 36-25 halftime lead.

The Hornets went up by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, but the Black Knights got back as close as 50-46 with six minutes left.

Salisbury finished strong. North Davidson scored only one point the rest of the way.

McCullough scored 13. Jamecia Huntley had 12, Jaleiah Gibson scored 11, and Kyla Bryant and Anayia Fulson had 10 apiece.

CARSON

CONCORD — Carson’s girls won easily at Robinson, blowing out the Bulldogs, 67-22.

Carson led 23-4 after a quarter and went up 41-9 by halftime. Carson made eight 3-pointers in the first half.

Carson (12-2) put five in double figures, with Colbie Perry scoring 17. Ellie Wilhelm, Hannah Isley and Maci Cooper scored 11 each. Taylor Conrad shot 4-for-4 and scored 10.

Cooper came off the bench to make two early 3-pointers.

Conrad had seven rebounds, while Carleigh Perry had six.

Six Cougars had three steals apiece.

“It was our only game this week, so we wanted to be sharp,” Carson coach Brooke Stouder said. “We shot really well in the first half and we forced a lot of turnovers. Everyone contributed.”

SOUTH ROWAN

LANDIS — South Rowan’s lost Tuesday’s Central Carolina Conference game to Central Davidson, 52-25.

Madison Neal and Salem Ward scored 15 each for the Spartans.

South (3-10, 2-6) put up four straight single-digit quarters.

Madilyn Cherry scored eight points, while Bethany Rymer scored seven.

“Not our best night,” South coach Alex Allen said.

South’s modest, two-game winning streak ended.

NORTH ROWAN

SPENCER — North Rowan and Gray Stone were both unbeaten in the Yadkin Valley Conference going into Tuesday’s contest, but it was a tough night for the Cavaliers.

Gray Stone rolled, 60-35.

Natavia Taborn scored 14 for North. Hannah Wilkerson had eight.

Also scoring for North (8-4, 4-1) were Kamora Cannie (6), Chloee Stoner (5) and Makiya McDaniel (2).

 

DAVIE

MOCKSVILLE — Davie’s girls lost to R.J. Reynolds, 40-29, on Tuesday in the Central Piedmont Conference opener for both teams.

Somer Johnson scored nine for Davie (0-14), while Rebecca Devericks had eight.

OTHER GAMES

• A.L. Brown’s girls (4-9) were outscored 63-53 by Northwest Cabarrus in the South Piedmont Conference opener for both teams.

Northwest turned things around with a big third quarter.

• Ja’el Miller scored 19 points and led Central Cabarrus to a 46-45 win against Providence in a non-conference game. Aniyah Tate had eight points and eight rebounds for the Vikings.

• Myers Park beat Hickory Ridge, 58-35. Kennedy Calhoun led the Bulls (6-7) with 15 points.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Corriher-Lipe won against West Rowan, 40-15.

McKenzie Menius scored eight points. Hannah Atwell and Addie Plott had seven each.
