FUMC hosts Sock Hop tonight
First United Methodist Church is hosting a Sock Hop this evening from 7-9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the corner of Bank and Church Streets. The event is free, but donations will be accepted for Camp Discovery, which provides a week-long traditional camp experience for rising 4th and 5th grade students.
The evening includes dancing, Cheerwine floats, and snacks. Sock Hop attire is encouraged, but not required.
Rowan-Davie County Deacons’ Alliance celebrates 31 years
SPENCER — On Sunday at 4 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, the The Rowan-Davie County Deacons’ Alliance will be honored for its 31 years of service to the community.
Presentations will be made by Deacon Reginald C. Weeks Sr. and the sermon will be delivered by guest speaker Rev. Patrick Jones of New Zion Baptist Church.
The nonprofit Deacons’ Alliance was organized on Feb. 21, 1989, for the purpose of helping to feed, clothe and shelter the less fortunate through working with and supporting Rowan Helping Ministries. Additionally, their goals included helping in the community and city government to make Rowan and Davie Counties better places to live, and to fully support the pastors and leaders of their churches.
There were 16 deacons present at the first meeting from local churches and surrounding counties.
The founder and first president was William “Ken” Clement; the late Richard Washington was the second president, and Willie Charleston was the third. Reginald Weeks Sr. is the current president.
Building Fund service at Fairview Heights
A Building Fund service will be held at Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road, on Sunday at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. Ricky Johnson, pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Granite Quarry. Rev. Clarence E. Marlin is host pastor.
Fruit of the Spirit program
CLEVELAND — A Fruit of the Spirit program will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 5890 South River Church Road. Speakers from several local churches will be featured. Host pastor is Rev. Eddie l. Fortson.
Soup kitchen at Tower of Power
The soup kitchen will be open at Tower of Power, 601 E Cemetery St., on second, third and fourth Tuesdays, noon-2 p.m. starting Feb. 11.
Outreach Ministries fellowship service
Outreach Christian Ministries, 722 W. Horah St., will hold a fellowship service on Sunday at 4 p.m. with guest speaker Pastor Rick Galloway from Dorsett Chapel.
Call for hand bell ringers
The annual Bell Tower Ringers Handbell Festival is March 20-21 and the deadline for churches to register is Feb. 21. It will be led by David VanderMeer, Minister of Music and Fine Arts at First Presbyterian, of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Blessing of the Children worship service
The F.A.C.T. (Families and Communities Together) will sponsor its Blessing of the Children Worship Service on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church USA, 300 S. Caldwell St., on the theme “African Americans and the Vote.” Dr. Mary A. Love of Hood Theological Seminary will be the presenter.
Recognition of children and youth from F.A.C.T. partner churches making the All A and A & B Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance and Good Citizenship will be highlighted. Rev. Olen Bruner is host pastor.
Usher Anniversary at Mt. Calvary
The Usher Anniversary Service will be held at Mt. Calvary Holy Church, 1401 Standish St., on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The guest speaker will be Pastor Reginald McConneaughey of God’s Tabernacle for Believers in Rockwell. Host pastor is Rev. C. Eric Susong and Pastor Emeritus is Bishop Harvey L. Rice.
Treasure Feamster Scholarship
The Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship scholarship committee is accepting applications for the 2020 Treasure Feamster Scholarship. Applications will be received through April 6 and must be postmarked by that date. The scholarships are available for high school seniors who are members of an Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship-affiliated church, regardless of their field of study. Macedonia Baptist Church
CONCORD — Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 6740 Macedonia Church Road, celebrates the 23rd pastoral anniversary of Rev. John N. Leazer, First Lady Darlene Leazer and family, on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The morning speaker is Rev. Dr. Leonard F. Jarvis, retired pastor of Salvation Baptist Church of the Bronx, NY. He is currently an associate minister at Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte.
The afternoon speaker will be Dr. C.L. Easley of Cross Road Baptist Church of Rock Hill, SC.
