CHINA GROVE — Big games by Chaz McCombs and Jalen Moss led West Rowan to a win at Carson on Friday.

McCombs scored a career-high 23 while Moss had 20 in a 67-51 victory that gave West (10-6, 4-0) sole possession of first place in the North Piedmont Conference.

Macari Allison added 11 for the Falcons.

West had tenacious defensive efforts that stopped Carson’s high-scoring duo of EJ Clark (9 points) and AJ Mauldin (1 point). Clark was averaging 22, while Mauldin was averaging 17.

Carson (10-8, 3-1) got a career-best 25 points from Javon Smith.

SALISBURY — Lexington’s boys stayed in first place in the Central Carolina Conference with a 78-75 win at Salisbury on Friday.

Lexington (14-3, 11-1) made six free throws in the final 35 seconds and avenged an overtime loss to the Hornets in Lexington.

While Lexington has won nine in a row, the loss just about knocks Salisbury (11-6, 8-4) out of the league race. All six Salisbury losses have been by three or fewer points.

Salisbury led after a quarter, 17-10, but Lexington had an 11-0 flurry in the second quarter to take a 36-33 halftime lead.

Lexington led 70-62 with 2:29 left when the Hornets made a late charge behind two 3-pointers by Zay Kesler.

Post man Alex Holt scored 21 to lead the Yellow Jackets. and guard Derrick Dearmon had 20.

Kesler led Salisbury with 18. Nate Brown scored 17, and Cameron Stout had 12.

ASHEBORO — Brandon White had 23 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks and led North Rowan to a 69-44 Yadkin Valley Conference win at Uwharrie Charter Academy on Friday.

Denerio Robinson added 12 points for the first-place Cavaliers (11-5, 9-1), who rebounded from a loss to South Stanly.

Dalon Arrington led UCA (6-8, 4-5) with 15 points.

STATESVILLE — Coming off a tough loss, East Rowan never got it going in a 73-48 North Piedmont Conference setback at Statesville.

“Our goal was to get it inside and we did, but we missed a lot of chip shots early,” East coach Trey Ledbetter said. “We got down, and then it snowballed quick. Statesville is a different beast when they’re at home, and they played very well. It was a great atmosphere and we fought, but we just didn’t shoot it very well.”

Vincent Jones led East (2-16, 0-4) with 12 points. Dylan Valley made three 3-pointers and scored 11.

East made seven 3-pointers, but most were after the Greyhounds had the game well in hand.

Chris Brown paced Statesville (11-5, 2-2) with 15 points.

WELCOME — North Davidson romped against South Rowan on Friday, 81-37, in a Central Carolina Conference game.

Braden Graham led the Raiders (2-16, 2-10) with 17 points.

Jamarien Dalton, who reached 1,000 points recently, had 25 for the Black Knights (14-4, 10-2). Tedric Jenkins scored 20.
