City Council’s retreat scheduled Thursday, Friday

SALISBURY — The City Council will meet for a two-day planning retreat on Thursday and Friday at the Livingstone School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, at 530 Jake Alexander Bvld. S.
The retreat’s desired outcomes include establishing a shared vision for Salisbury, developing goals to support the vision and building a foundation for collaboration and teamwork.
Thursday’s session includes:
• 12-12:05 p.m.: Call to order and opening remarks by Mayor Karen Alexander
• 12:05-12:25 p.m.: For the love of cities
• 12:25-1 p.m.: Capital Improvement Plan review by City Manager Lane Bailey, Finance Director Shannon Moore and Dennie Martin
• 1-2:15 p.m.: Break
• 2:15-3:15 p.m.: Public/private partnerships supporting early education initiatives
• 3:15-4:30 p.m.: Public/private partnerships relating to economic development initiatives
• 4:30-5:30 p.m.: Sustainability: recycling update and forecast by Public Works Director Craig Powers
• 5:30-6 p.m.: Break for working dinner
• 6:05-6:30 p.m. Sustainability: reducing the city’s carbon footprint by Bailey, Administrative Services Director Kelly Baker, Powers, Fleet Manager Jake Sterling and Stormwater Technician Michael Hanna
• 6:30-7 p.m.: Review/recap of the day
• 7:30-8 p.m.: Ideas that resonate – discussion and wrap up
Friday’s session includes:
• 12-12:05 p.m.: Call to order by Alexander
• 12:05-12:30 p.m.: Review and check-in by Warren Miller, of Fountainworks Facilitation and Management Consulting
• 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Building and facilities needs by Powers, Parks and Recreation Director Nick Aceves and Fire Chief Bob Parnell
• 1:30-2:30 p.m.: Infrastructure: Streets, lighting and parking by City Engineer Wendy Brindle and Planning Director Hannah Jacobson
• 2:30-2:45 p.m.: Break
• 2:45-3:30 p.m.: Transit master plan and routes by Transit Director Rodney Harrison
• 3:30-4:15 p.m.: Setting 2020 priorities
• 4:15-4:45 p.m.: Development of a one-year tactical plan
• 4:45-5 p.m.: Session wrap up and exit interview
