CARTHAGE (AP) ó A handful of people attended the first public forum and counseling session in a North Carolina town where a shooting rampage at a nursing home killed seven patients and a nurse.
Mark Marquez of the Sandhills Center for Mental Health said Thursday night that the reason might be the community wasn’t ready for the healing process. The shooting occurred Sunday at Pinelake Health and Rehab in Carthage.
Marquez says the community “had a sense of safety taken from you” by the assault.
The audience at First Baptist Church of Carthage was mostly mental health workers, town officials and reporters. The sessions are scheduled every Thursday night this month at the church.
