Furloughs for county employees are forcing cuts in operating days and hours at county libraries, the landfill and recycling sites.
The Rowan Public Library will be closed Monday, April 13; Friday, May 22; and Friday and Saturday, June 26-27.
Beginning April 18, the main library in Salisbury and the Frank T. Tadlock South Rowan Regional Library in China Grove will operate 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and will be closed Sundays.
Also starting April 18, the East Rowan branch in Rockwell will be closed Saturdays.
This reduced operating schedule will remain in effect through the end of June.
Landfill changes
The Department of Environmental Management has announced changes due to furloughs and the Easter holiday.
The landfill, all recycling sites and the main office will be closed Good Friday, April 10. On Easter Monday, April 13, the landfill will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. All other sites will close that day.
The landfill will be open on April 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Julian Road, Rock Grove, Kannapolis, Dunn’s Mountain, Woodleaf, Goodnight Road and Liberty recycling centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 11. The processing center and Providence Church Road center with be closed April 11.
