SALISBURY — Salisbury’s boys stopped a two-game skid with a 66-44 win against Oak Grove on Friday.

“We needed a win,” Salisbury coach Bryan Withers said. “We played without a few (players) tonight. We have been falling apart and our team chemistry has been bad. I’ve got to do a better job of keeping this team focused and getting them over the hump.”

Nate Brown led the Hornets (12-7, 9-5) in the Central Carolina Conference game with 16 points. Jacquez Smith (three 3-pointers) and Cameron Stout (two 3s) scored 12 each.

Salisbury broke the game open in the third quarter.

Ethan Whitaker scored 12 to spark the Grizzlies (6-13, 3-11).

LANDIS – South Rowan’s boys own their first two-game winning streak 0f the season after beating West Davidson on Friday.

It’s no coincidence that the Raiders have turned in their two best defensive efforts in the last two games.

Braden Graham scored 21 for the Raiders  (4-16, 4-10) in the Central Carolina Conference victory.  Graham topped 20 points for the 12th time this season.

Brenden Finger scored eight of his 15 points in the fourth quarter for the Raiders.

Jayden Dextraze scored a season-high nine points.

Quin Foster led West Davidson (5-14, 3-11) with 10 points.

South held the Green Dragons to one field goal in the fourth quarter.

South moved ahead of West Davidson and Oak Grove in the standings.

“It was a great week for us — 2-0,” South coach Andre McCain said. “It was another good team win.”

OLIN – It was a tough week for the Carson boys.

They lost another close one on Friday, falling at North Iredell, 60-55.

It was the third straight North Piedmont Conference loss for the Cougars.

“It’s been a rough stretch,” Carson coach Brian Perry said. “And it was a tough week with two road games (t0 Iredell). We’ve just got to keep fighting to get better and to play better. I love this team and  I still believe in them. I know we’ll respond to some adversity and improve.”

AJ Mauldin bounced back from two off games to make six 3-pointers and score 22 points to lead the Cougars (10-10, 3-3). Javon Smith scored 12, but EJ Clark, the county’s leading scorer, was held to seven points.

John Jackson scored 20 and Jackson Hawkins had 16 for a young North Iredell team (9-11, 4-2) that is only a game out of first place.

Carson scored only 11 points in the first half  and trailed 19-11 at the break. Things picked up in the second half, and Carson scored 30 in the fourth quarter.

A.L. Brown lost for the second time to Concord on Friday, dropping the South Piedmont Conference contest, 77-66.

Amari Grier scored 20 to lead the Wonders. Kheni Briggs had 18 and JD Glenn scored 15.

The Davie County at R.J. Reynolds and North Rowan at North Moore contests were postponed. The North Rowan-North Moore action was postponed until next Wednesday.

North Davidson won against Thomasville in a Central Carolina Conference game on Friday, 63-59. Jamarien Dalton led the Black Knights with 23 points. Malcolm Knight scored 20 for Thomasville.
