ROCKWELL ó The public will get a chance to check out the newest Rockwell Rural Fire Station during an open house Saturday.
The new station at 11800 Old Beatty Ford Road (opposite Grace Lowerstone Church) will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A ribbon-cutting will be held at 1 p.m. and refreshments will be served throughout the day.
Fire Chief Allen Cress encourages the 10,000 people who live in the fire district to visit.
The fire department borrowed $600,000 through the U.S. Department of Agriculture to build the 7,500-square-foot station.
Cress said the additional station was essential to meet the state requirements to have a station within 5 miles of the area served.
The main station is at 320 Link St., inside Rockwell city limits.
