SALISBURY — Guards Daijah Turner and Daisa Harris each scored 15 points as Livingstone defeated Winston-Salem State, 62-58, in women’s college basketball action here Saturday afternoon at New Trent Gym.

The Blue Bears, 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the CIAA, withstood a furious WSSU rally in winning their fourth straight game. The Rams fell to 10-12 and 5-7.

Livingstone had a great first quarter, jumping out to a 23-11 lead. The Rams cut the deficit to 34-27 by halftime.

In the final period, the Blue Bears built a commanding lead, holding a 15-point advantage (58-43), with just 4:41 left to play. However, Winston-Salem State began chipping away, and came almost all the way back.

The Rams pulled to within two points, at 60-58, on a layup by Taylor Daniels, with only 21 seconds remaining.

Turner was fouled and sank two big free throws at the 16-second mark, taking the LC lead back to four points. Daniels then missed a jumper and Harris rebounded for the Blue Bears. Harris missed two foul shots with five seconds left, but it didn’t hurt, as time ran out on the Rams.

Another guard, Adel Allen, followed Turner and Harris with 14 points for Livinstone. Victoria Onozie had eight points and nine rebounds.

As a team, the Blue Bears shot 48 percent for the game (21-of-44), including 7-of-18 from the 3-point arc. The Rams made just 3-of-17 three-pointers.

Brandi Segars and O’Shea Hatley paced WSSU with 14 points each.
