Gospel program at The Building
CLEVELAND — The annual Gospel Program in honor of our parents William “Daddy Wee” Cuthbertson and Doris “Momma Doris” Cuthbertson will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. at The Building. The speakers will be Rev. Tommy Cuthbertson and Master Marcus McCombs Jr.
Featured groups will be Messengers for Christ, Echoes for Christ and many more.
Annual show at Trinity Presbyterian
The Men’s Council of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Caldwell St., will host its annual Valentine’s Day Dinner and Variety Show on Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
The show will feature music, dance, poetry and spoken word. There will be a special guest performance by Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen, a local jazz and blues singer, who has earned national and international acclaim. There will be door prizes and special treats for the ladies. Admission is $7 at the door.
Piedmont Singing Men Concert
Bethel Lutheran Church, 355 E. Ridge Road, will host a concert of gospel music by the Piedmont Singing Men on Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited. The Piedmont Singing Men is an ecumenical choir from Cabarrus and Rowan counties, and is directed by Randy Childers.
Men’s Day at White Rock AME Zion
GRANITE QUARRY — White Rock AME Zion Church, will celebrate Annual Men’s Day on Sunday at 11 a.m. The theme is “His Grace is Sufficient.” John Hairston, a Charlotte native, will be the 11 a.m. guest speaker. Hairston is the owner and operator of 11 McDonald’s in the Charlotte area. A North Carolina State A&T University graduate, majoring in industrial arts education, Mr. Hairston was an educator in the Boiling Springs High School in Boiling Springs, SC and Independence High School in Mint Hill. He is a member of Rockwell AME Zion Church.
Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Heritage Sunday at Mt Zion Missionary Baptist
Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave., will celebrate Heritage Sunday, with the theme of “A More Excellent Way,” during the 11 a.m. service. Students will be recognized for academic excellence, achievement and improvement. The combined Creative Expression Ministry will also minister. Special guest choir will be The Gospel Choir of Livingstone College under the direction of Rev. Christopher Gray.
Rev. Dr. Nilous M. Avery II is host pastor.
Third Creek AME Zion
CLEVELAND — Men’s Day will be observed Sunday at Third Creek AME Zion Church, 415 E. Main St. The 11 a.m. message will be preached by the pastor, Rev. Harold L. Jordan. The Men’s Choir, under the direction of Zane Alexander, will present special music commemorating Black History Month with Negro spirituals. The Twelve Tribes of Israel will be presented for the afternoon service at 3 p.m. by the men of the church, who will portray the twelve sons of Jacob.
Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall following the morning service.
Providence holds Men’s Day Celebration
On Sunday at 11 a.m. at Providence AME Zion Church, 2415 Providence Church Road, host pastor Rev. Zacharias E. Allen Sr. will speak on Saint John 4:14 and the W.O.W. (Well Of Water) for the Men’s Day Celebration Service.
Antioch celebrates pastoral anniversary
GRANITE QUARRY — Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 602 S. Salisbury Ave., will celebrate the 16th pastoral anniversary of Rev. Rickey Johnson and First Lady Peggy Johnson.
On Sunday at 11 a.m. Elder Carl C. Brown III of Church of God in Christ of Salisbury will speak.
Rev. Marcus Fairley of St. Luke Baptist Church will be the speaker at 3 p.m. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Horizon Church hosts Mauney
STATESVILLE — Preacher, speaker, author and former Statesville City Council candidate Jamil Mauney will speak at 10 a.m. on Sunday at Horizon Church, 316 Signal Hill Drive, concerning his new book, “The List: A Kingdom Strategy How To Forgive.”
A Statesville native, Mauney attended Livingstone College, graduating in 2008 with a degree in computer science.
Liberty AME Zion
MOCKSVILLE — On Sunday, Liberty AME Zion Church, 271 Gladstone Road, will celebrate Men’s Day at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. Jerry Miller, pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at 2865 Enon Church Road in Salisbury.

Ardis Chapel AME Zion Church, 1940 Old Mocksville Road, will host its Men’s Day Program on Sunday at 3 p.m. The speaker is East Spencer Alderman Tony Hillian.
The Helping Hands Awards recipients this year are Mr. Javon Hargrave and Mr. Lloyd Phillips.

NAACP president at Moore’s Chapel
Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 500 Partee St., welcomes Dr. T. Anthony Spearman, NAACP president, to speak on Sunday as part of its Black History Series, at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.
Dr. Spearman holds a bachelor of science degree Summa Cum Laude from Mercy College in Yonkers, NY in 1995; a master of divinity degree Magna Cum Laude from Hood Theological Seminary in 1998; and a doctor of ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio in 2003. Spearman is also an ordained minister with the AME Zion Church and has been the pastor of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, and St. Philip AME Zion Church in Greensboro.
Dr. Spearman has participated in the Historic Thousands on Jones Street Movement and the Moral Monday Movement. In 2011, he was named the NC NAACP Minister of the Year.

United Ministerial Alliance
The United Ministerial Alliance will host its joint worship service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Lilly’s Chapel Church of God, 618 West Thomas St. Rev. Anthony Snipes, newly installed Pastor of Love Christian Center, East Spencer, will deliver the message. Elder Dr. Doris Clawson is host pastor.
The U.M.A. will host its monthly meeting on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. at Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 East Cemetery St.
