The public welcome-home celebration for members of the Salisbury-based 846th Transportation Co. of the U.S. Army Reserve will have to wait a few weeks.
After nearly a year in Iraq, members of the company will arrive on different flights throughout the day today at Charlotte Douglas Airport and be bused to Salisbury late in the day.
The time is uncertain.
Jennifer Welch, team leader for the Family Readiness Group, said the homecoming event she was planning had to be postponed.
The company returned Saturday to the United States and has been going through debriefing at Camp Atterbury in Columbus, Ind., this week.
The close to 165 men and women of the company left Salisbury for their assignment on April 1, 2008.
The “Road Hawgs,” as they call themselves, comprised mostly of drivers, logged a total of 1,811,913 miles on their missions, as they transported items such as ammunition, replacement parts, food, water and medical supplies.
This was the company’s second deployment. It first went to Iraq in 2003-2004 during the height of the war.
