KANNAPOLIS ó A China Grove woman was hospitalized in intensive care following a Wednesday afternoon wreck on Cannon Boulevard that injured three people.
Mary Carol Whitman Mecimore, 72, of 314 Haney St., China Grove, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast following the wreck and placed in intensive care.
Emergency radio traffic reported Mecimore was non-responsive following the 12:48 p.m. accident at the intersection of Cannon Boulevard and Chapel Street.
Lt. Steve Belk of the Kannapolis Police Department said the accident occurred when Archie Willie Pearson, 51, of James Street, was driving east on 28th Street and attempted to cross Cannon Boulevard heading for Chapel Street.
He pulled his 1999 Chevrolet truck into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu going south on U.S. 29 and driven by Carl Anderson Mecimore, 74. Mary Carol Mecimore was a passenger in the vehicle.
The car struck the truck in the front of the left side near the tire and both vehicles continued on before stopping.
According to the report by Officer Todd Decker, the truck driver, Pearson said he didn’t see the Mecimores’ vehicle coming when he pulled out to cross the street.
The officer estimated the Mecimores’ car was traveling around 45 mph, the posted speed limit.
Pearson and Carl Mecimore were being evaluated in the emergency room at CMC-NorthEast Wednesday evening.
