Staff report
The Salisbury Public Art Committee will be installing 14 sculptures in the downtown area Thursday and Friday for the Salisbury Sculpture Show, “Discover What’s Outside,” which will run April 1 through Dec. 31.
The sculptures represent the work of 13 different artists from across the state and beyond. The pieces, which were selected from an open application process, represent a wide range of sculptural styles and materials.
The artists and their works:
– Katherine Apple, “Just for Fun;”
– Michael Baker, “Cirque #1;”
– Carl Billingsley, “Helix Tower;”
– Kevin Eichner, “Meus Amour;”
– Jim Galluci, “Pipeline” & “Purple Whisper Double Seater;”
– Don Green, “Tecton #9;”
– Roger Martin, “Jeremiah;”
– Dale McEntire, “Volute;”
– Harry McDaniel, “Anhinga;”
– Ray Moose, “N.C. Colonial Tuscarora;”
– Jozef Vercauteren, “Olympia;”
– Martin Webster, “Stream;”
– Robert Winkler, “Look Homeward, Angles.”
Installation locations within the downtown were chosen to best compliment each piece.
A walking tour of the sites within the downtown is being encouraged for students of art and history alike.
The first stop on the tour will be the Rowan County Visitors Center, where an indoor installation, Moose’s “N.C. Colonial Tuscarora,” will be on display.
Tour brochures also will be available at the Visitors Center.
A number of other events are planned around the sculpture exhibit that will entertain and educate residents and visitors during the nine-month display period.
The Salisbury Public Art Committee is inviting people of all ages to visit downtown and enjoy these public art pieces and participate in the some of the other events occurring over the next nine months.
