Salisbury/South girls 

LANDIS — Salisbury’s girls completed a perfect season in the Central Carolina Conference with a 67-31 win at South Rowan on Friday.

The Hornets (22-1, 18-0) took a 21-5 lead after a quarter and were in charge 39-18 at the half.

Kyla Bryant and Anayia Fulson led Salisbury with 16 points each. Rachel McCullough scored 12, and Jaleiah Gibson had nine.

Bethany Rymer scored 20 of South’s 31, with most of her points coming in the second and third quarters.

South (4-20, 3-15) tied for eighth in the 10-team league with Lexington and split with Lexington. Eight teams make the CCC tournament. Either South or Lexington will play a first-round tournament game at Salisbury on Monday at 6 p.m.

Salisbury hasn’t lost since the Christmas tournament (to 3A West Rowan).

Carson girls 

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s girls struggled on Friday but were able to beat South Iredell 52-45 on Senior Night.

“We didn’t shoot well, didn’t defend well, didn’t rebound well,” Carson coach Brooke Stouder said. “I don’t want to be all negative, but we really were fortunate to win. South Iredell played super-hard.”

Carson (21-3, 9-1) finished two games ahead of East Rowan and West Rowan in the North Piedmont Conference race, with the only league loss coming in overtime against West.

Colbie Perry led Carson with 12 points. Hannah Isley had a big game with 11 points and eight rebounds. Carleigh Perry had six points and seven rebounds.

Carson started its four seniors and led 29-23 at halftime, but made only three 3-pointers in the game and never could pull away.

“There were a lot of factors, I guess, not being in school Friday and  Senior Night, but I don’t want to make excuses,” Stouder said. “We just never got comfortable tonight, but I’m glad we won, and we’ll move on.”

Carson did a good job at the foul line, shooting 19-for-26.

Jasmine King had an unusually productive night for South Iredell (10-12, 5-5) and tossed in 15 points. Ashtyn Zeigler scored 12.

South Iredell, which has a lot of seniors, finished fourth and hosts No. 5 Statesville in a first-round tournament game on Tuesday.

Carson will enjoy a first-round bye and will play the winner of that Statesville-South Iredell game on Wednesday in a semifinal. Carson is the tournament host.

Carson’s girls won 26-12 against South Iredell on Friday.

Riley Isley scored seven. Makayla Johnson had six, and Abbey Nixon scored five. Defensive standouts were Kaalyn Wynn and Allie Burns.

Carson (14-3) tied for first with South Iredell.

SPC girls

Central Cabarrus finished a perfect South Piedmont Conference season with a 58-39 win against Northwest Cabarrus.

Mariah Barrie had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ja’el Miller had 16 points and seven assists.  Aniyah Tate  had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Miller surpassed 1,000 career points.

CCC girls

Second-place Ledford topped third-place North Davidson 51-35 in Central Carolina Conference play on Friday.

Emily Hege scored 18 for the Black Knights. Lettie Michael had nine.

Ashlyn Roark scored 11 to lead Ledford. Sarah Ledbetter had 10.

Salisbury/South boys 

LANDIS — Salisbury’s boys finished the Central Carolina Conference regular season with a 61-53 win at South Rowan on Friday.

Salisbury led 27-22 at halftime and went up by 11 points after three quarters, but had a tougher fight than expected on South’s Senior Night.

The Hornets beat South by 22 in the first meeting.

Zay Kesler made four 3-pointers and scored 20 to lead the Hornets. Latavian White had 13, Cameron Stout scored 10, and Jacquez Smith had eight.

South got 23 points from Braden Graham. Senior Brenden Finger made three 3-pointers and scored 11. Barrett Thompson had 10.

South (4-20, 4-14) finished eighth in the 10-team league and qualified for the league tournament. South will head to top-seeded North Davidson for a first-round game on Monday.

The win gave the Hornets (15-8, 12-6) a tie for third with Central Davidson and they are seeded third for the CCC tournament. Salisbury split with Central Davidson but is seeded higher for the tournament by virtue of a win against No. 2 seed Lexington.

Salisbury will host No. 6 Ledford at 7:30 on Monday in what should be an exciting first-round game in the CCC tourney. Salisbury nipped Ledford at home recently.

Carson boys 

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s boys lost an important game on Friday, falling on Senior Night at home to South Iredell, 84-80.

The loss dropped the Cougars to fifth place in the North Piedmont Conference.

Carson stood 10-7  overall and 3-0 in the NPC after beating  Statesville at home on Jan. 21, but the Cougars have been in a slide since then. They were swept by West Rowan and South Iredell and lost six of their last seven regular-season games.

“Just a rough stretch, with some very tough losses,” Carson coach Brian Perry said. “We were close in just about all those games, but we weren’t able to get it done. We’re in a good league, and those Iredell teams have all improved since early in the season.”

Junior Javon Smith scored a career-high 32 for the Cougars on Friday and has become a major force in recent weeks.

“We were setting good screens for him, and he was getting to the basket for some and-ones,” Perry said. “He also made a lot of elbow jumpers.”

Carson got 23 from AJ Mauldin and 13 from senior EJ Clark.

When you score 80, you’ll win most high school games, but South Iredell (9-14, 6-4), which has been surging of late, put five players in double figures. The Vikings were led by Gavin Morrison with 24 and Hunter Barnette with 18.

Carson dug a hole early and trailed 22-8 after a quarter. But the Cougars climbed all the way out. They briefly had the lead in the third quarter.

“We had our opportunities late in the game,” Perry said. “There were plenty of times where we could have pulled it out with a couple of stops. But we never got those stops.”

Carson is the host for the NPC tournament semifinals and championship, but may not be involved.

The Cougars will have to win at No. 4 seed North Iredell on Tuesday in the first round of the tournament. If they find a way to win that one, they’ll host top-seeded Statesville on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Davie boys

PFAFFTOWN — Davie’s boys (14-9, 5-5) won a  double-overtime Central Piedmont Conference thriller at Reagan on Friday.

A free throw with 11 seconds left in the  second OT by Zaharee Maddox and a late defensive stop lifted Davie to a 75-74 victory.

Maddox scored a career-high 28. Brooks Johnson added 16.

Davie finished third and  will host Reagan or East Forsyth in a first-round tournament game on Monday.

 

CCC boys

North Davidson’s boys beat Ledford 67-54 on Friday  to tie Lexington for the regular season championship in the Central Carolina Conference.

Jamarien Dalton scored 27 for the Black Knights, while Tedric Jenkins had 19.

Brenner White paced the Panthers with 17. JJ Barker an Tyler Partee scored 10 apiece.
