Salisbury City Council recognized Tuesday Salisbury Police Detective J.D. Barber, who has retired after 30 years with the department.
State law allows a retiring officer to receive his or her sidearm for $1.
The same law authorizes the retiring officer to keep his or her badge.
Barber joined the Salisbury police force in July 1979 as a records clerk and retired at the end of February.
He spent most of his career in the detective division.
