Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has posted its summer 2009 class schedule on its Web site. The college anticipates a significant demand for summer classes and recommends current and prospective students register early.
The class schedule and registration information can be found at www.rowancabarrus.edu/schedule/summer09/. Early registration begins April 13 and runs through April 29. RCCC will hold general registration for summer classes May 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. at its North Campus and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the South Campus.
Summer classes begin May 20. RCCC will offer a limited late registration on May 20 for any remaining class seats. New students must complete an admissions application before they can register for classes. RCCC requires two business days to process admissions applications.
RCCC’s summer schedule includes Saturday classes. These classes will meet 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from May 30 to July 25. For more information, contact the Student Services office at 704-216-3593 or 3637.
Youth Legislative Assembly
More than a dozen student leaders were recognized with special honors during the 39th annual Youth Legislative Assembly (YLA), which was held March 13-15 in Raleigh. About 266 students from across the state participated in the event, which was presented by the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office of the N.C. Department of Administration.
The Richard White Leadership Award, named after 1996 YLA Tri-Speaker Richard White, is given to the senior-ranking members of the YLA Leadership Team who demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills. The 2009 honorees include Holly Holbrook, Albemarle Senior High School, and Michelle Nguyen, Salisbury High School.
The Sud-Freemark Award of Service honors a student who has participated in the Youth Legislative Assembly for four years, with three of those years being on the leadership team. The 2009 recipients include Nguyen and Seth Morris, both of Salisbury High School.
