KANNAPOLIS ó Police are asking for help in finding a would-be thief who shot up the front of a pawn shop in a failed attempt to gain entry.
Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, police responded to a report of gunshots on North Ridge Avenue.
Police didn’t find a gunman, but did find bullet holes in the front of Value Pawn and Jewelry at 1605 N. Ridge Ave. Police also found the meter box disconnected.
Capt. Chuck Adams said it appears one or more people attempted to disable the alarm system and force entry into the building.
Using a weapon that fires the same rounds as an AK-47, the suspects fired multiple bullets into the lock, but to no avail. Other shots hit the glass in front of the store, but bars on the inside prevented entry.
Adams asked anyone with information to call Kannapolis Crime Stoppers at 704-932-7463 or the Kannapolis Police Department at 704-920-4000.
