A vacant home on Millford Hills Road burned early today, sending a cloud of thick, black smoke over the western section of the city.
Neighbors said the house at 305 Millford Hills Road had been vacant for at least five years.
Salisbury fire officials also confirmed that the house was reported to be vacant, but planned to search it after they brought the fire under control.
Neighbors said a house less than a block away had been frequented by homeless people in past years. That house was demolished.
According to county property records, the house is owned by W. Clarke Edwards of Versailles, Ky. The house was built around 1910.
Utility companies arrived on the scene around 9 a.m. to disconnect gas and electricity.
