I live on the east side of Salisbury. For me to get downtown, I hop on Stokes Ferry Road, which soon becomes Innes Street. Shortly after that, I come to an entry ramp for Interstate 85 north.

At that point, on the right, people may notice a large, white cinderblock retaining wall. It’s very dirty and overgrown with weeds and vines. Actually it’s an eyesore.

However, a few days ago, while heading downtown, I glanced to my right and noticed the wall had been painted over with a mural that said, “Welcome to Salisbury.”

This mural is not lazy, second-rate graffiti. It’s been expertly done with nice lettering and color schemes of black, gray, blue and white.

The whole mural has a kind of cosmic feel to it. I felt as though I could have been looking at the cover of an old Grateful Dead album. Kudos to the one, or everyone, involved in the undertaking of this project, trying to make Salisbury a little cooler and more attractive in the process. I, for one, am appreciate.

Now, if we could just do something about all our litter.
