Staff report
The Rowan-Salisbury School System is operating on a two-hour delay today.
At least, that was the plan as of 7 p.m. Tuesday.
“We’ll still send crews out Wednesday morning to check the roads, but right now, we’re planning on a two-hour delay,” said school system spokeswoman Rita Foil.
Local schools were closed Monday and Tuesday as a result of a storm system that rolled through the county over the weekend, turning to snow by Sunday evening and leaving the county blanketed with 5 inches of the white stuff.
Roads were covered with ice and snow Monday, and frigid conditions overnight didn’t allow much of an opportunity for melting.
Temperatures are expected to climb dramatically in coming days, with highs reaching almost 70 degrees by the weekend.
