Letter: Bond referendum’s passage means sad times in Salisbury

My name is Caroline Lansbury. I’ve lived in Salisbury since 1989, and since 2010 I have been on Supplemental Security Income.

I voted “no” on the bond referendum for a good reason. I do not want my taxes raised to pay for something that the state of North Carolina should be paying. Think about all the people on SSI and disabled who live on a tight budget.

You are actually trying to put these poor people out on the streets. No wonder we see so many homeless folks on the Square. This is a terrible thing to have passed.

I agree with Barry Nesbitt’s letter (“Taxes won’t decrease after bond paid for”) that the N.C. Education Lottery should be paying for this — not us Salisburians. There are sad times for Salisbury at the moment.
